JESSE FLEMING
As a multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and educator Fleming's career focuses on the experience of being a “self” at various scales and in different forms of embodiment, both human and non-human. these scales can be described as the experience of being an isolated self, the collective self, to the transcendence of the self all together.
The strategies are varied and eclectic; from video and video installation, image making, performances, public gatherings, mindfulness workshops, virtual reality, augmented reality, motion capture, and expanded sensory input.
Fleming is an Assistant professor and director of A creative technology lab, the Perceptual Technologies Lab (PTL) at the university of Nebraska-lincoln's Johnny carson Center For emerging media arts. PTL continues this practice of SELF investigation in academia, across disciplines, and within collaboration from other researchers and students.

HIS WORK IS IN THE PERMANENT COLLECTION OF THE WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART, the cedars-sinai's collection, BORUSAN CONTEMPORARY OF ISTANBUL TURKEY, and THE RUTTER FAMILY ART FOUNDATION. IN 2012 HE WON THE MOVING IMAGE FAIR AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL VISION AND ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT. IN 2014 HE WAS LISTED BY ARTFORUM MAGAZINE AS ONE OF THE TOP TEN ARTISTS IN LOS ANGELES and PARTICIPAtes in INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCIES.
As a filmmaker in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, Fleming has directed film projects with musicians Sigur Ros, Lykke Li, Fools Gold, PeeL'D, KID606, and Explosions in the Sky. Fleming also directed or Shot works with artists Doug Aitken, Matthew Barney, Kerry Tribe, Francesco Vezzoli, Cyprian Gaillard, Mark Lecky, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Merce Cunningam, Daniel Arsham, and for institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Guggenheim New York, the Getty, the Hammer Museum, MOCA TV, NY Times, and Bloomberg TV.
HE HAS AN MFA FROM UCLA'S DESIGN MEDIA ARTS DEPARTMENT, A BFA FROM THE SAN FRANCISCO ART INSTITUTE IN NEW GENRES, AND A TEACHING CREDENTIAL FROM UCLA’S MINDFUL AWARENESS RESEARCH CENTER AT THE SEMEL INSTITUTE FOR NEUROSCIENCE AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR. Prior to his position at the university of Nebraska - Lincoln, fleming was a lecturer at ucla and stanford within new media art and technology.
